API Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening of API transport adapters and middleware behavior across protocol surfaces
  • expansion of benchmark-backed confidence for request parsing, execution bridging, and serialization paths
  • strengthening of observability and reliability behavior under concurrency and degraded conditions

Design Constraints

  • transport-facing contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • adapter behavior remains fail-closed on invalid or unsupported protocol input.
  • high-concurrency paths remain bounded by explicit runtime controls.
  • observability integration must not compromise request-path correctness.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
GraphQL interfaces deterministic parse/execute behavior and subscription transport stability
gRPC interfaces explicit adapter error semantics and lifecycle consistency
WebSocket interfaces bounded queue/session behavior with clear failure contracts
tracing/export interfaces bounded, observable, non-intrusive telemetry behavior

Implementation Notes

  • standardize transport-level error classes and response semantics.
  • reduce ambiguity in optional capability handling for API surfaces.
  • expand direct benchmarking of parser, serialization, and endpoint execution paths.
  • tighten diagnostics and operator observability for protocol failures.

Test Strategy

  • focused unit and integration tests across GraphQL/gRPC/WebSocket adapters.
  • concurrency and load tests for queueing, parsing, and session handling paths.
  • deterministic fixture tests for degraded/unsupported capability modes.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped API performance targets.

Performance Targets

  • parser and adapter hot paths stay within release baseline regression budgets.
  • correlation/tracing overhead remains bounded in low-latency request paths.
  • benchmark manifest completeness reaches no-missing-case status for mapped API targets.

Security / Reliability

  • continue authn/authz enforcement checks across all transport entry points.
  • enforce fail-closed behavior for malformed payloads and unsupported protocol states.
  • maintain bounded resource behavior for connection and queue-heavy workloads.
  • keep operational diagnostics actionable for production incident triage.
