Hello, as far as I know, nobody has used an ultrasonic distance sensor with Fido et. al. I don't think you will be able to create a map with quality nearly enough for navigation if the LiDAR is replaced with an ultrasonic distance sensor like HC-SR04. Its angular resolution is an order of magnitude too low. |

Hi,
I'm working with a couple of UK Male Suicide Prevention charities (no, I'm not asking for funding etc) and the idea that I'm working on is using either a remix of Loki or Fido (I will obviously provide full acknowledgement, attribution and share my remixes with you and the community completely open source) and I thank you for giving me this inspiration....
The aim of my project is to provide a 'comfort pet' for those people in a really dark place. From experience, people in those dark places can't afford a comfort pet, don't want to take it for a walk, don't want to pick up poo, can't afford to have a pet etc so I wanted to come up with something that just provides the comfort without the responsibilities of looking after an animal.
I've currently got 3 versions of Fido Remix in the works, 1 with Lidar, 1 with spring loaded bumpers without Lidar so when the droid bumps in to something, it emits a giggle noise and wanders off in the other direction etc...
Now to my question - has anyone built a Fido that uses Ultrasound instead of LIDAR and where abouts did you position the ultrasonic sensors ?
Oh I've also built a charging station....well I've printed it....there's only so many hours in a day....
Again, thanks for the inspiration !
