TypeError: 'QVariant' object is not subscriptable

I just tried installing the LINZ data importer plugin in QGIS 3.16.7 but got an error message (screenshot attached) and then figured out that I could successfully install it if I didn’t have a project already open, and then once installed, was only able to find the LINZ logo after restarting the whole program. Not sure if this is useful info to you or not. Possibly just issues you wouldn’t have any control over, with the version of QGIS I’m using? Simon suggested I email to let you know anyway.

Looks like this has occurred in other plugins and most people suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, or restarting QGIS.

Looking at the same issue with another plugin here, it seems you also need to change from using QSettings to QgsSettings

This is a bit old but one easy test is to delete the QGIS profile and rebuild it by restarting QGIS and reinstalling the plugins.
The profile is in the C:\Users\YourComputerLoginName\AppData\Roaming\QGIS
I typically delete QGIS folder and rebuild it by Opening QGIS and reinstalling plugins.
It might work to delete the Plugins folder only.

Looking at the same issue with another plugin here, it seems you also need to change from using QSettings to QgsSettings

These changes should probably be made, rather than the plugin failing cryptically like this...
