Horizontal & Bottom-Up Frames

I was a bit baffled to find out that tabs only open top-to-bottom, because that essentially forces me to place all frames at the top of my desktop, which kind of ruins my muscle memory of years of having particular files in particular corners.

I would imagine that the lack of such a feature at this point is gotta have to do with technical limitations, since I would say it's rather ubiquitous. I could to fork this and try to add the feature myself, but I would really like to know if this is planned, technically complicated, or just deferred or ignored thus far.
