Description

Selecting the motor sound editor in TrainEditor2 causes a crash.

Reproduction

run 'mono TrainEditor2.exe'
Select vehicle 0 in the left tab.
Select the "Motor Sound Settings" tab.
TrainEditor2 crashes.

Using Wine, the display works, but when I try to play the sound, the following log is output and it doesn't respond.

I've also received reports from Windows users that they're experiencing the same error as when using Wine on Linux, preventing playback.

It has been reported that it worked in version 1.11.0.8.

The daily build on June 15, 2026, continues to crash on Ubuntu+mono

Hmm...

I can't immediately reproduce a crash at the minute after the changes for the build from the 15th. I've found some errant path combines when importing a sound.cfg file, but this wouldn't crash.

I can also see that TE2 can get a bit glitchy when switching between the tabs, especially with a sound playing. Looking into this...

The issue appeared starting with version 1.10.0.0.
It does not occur in the daily build from November 3, 2023.
It did occur in the build from January 22, 2024.
I do not have the builds from the intervening period, and since the only publicly available daily build was from 2026, I was unable to investigate further.

I built and ran a few versions that seemed relevant.
These resulted in a crash.

Ubuntu 24.04 is definitely not crashing for builds after the 15th.

Is there any console output when it crashes please?

OK, that's interesting.
The crash is in SDL2, where it tries to create the graphics context; we might have two separate crashes here.

I've made another change to disable SDL2 under Linux and the build will re-generate in a minute, see if that helps.
