Some suggestions for the "open next to current image" feature

A great image viewer, others on vscode have difficulty viewing floating point images. Some little suggestions:

1. The "open next to current image" function cannot be maintained, and the multi-photo status will become invalid after switching tabs. But adding another picture will return to normal.
2. In this state, after pressing the ‘t’ or ‘r’ key, the image will be displayed against the upper edge.
3. In this state, the histogram cannot be displayed normally.
4. It cannot be applied to multiple pictures, only one can be added at a time. It is best to use it directly on the folder and quickly add pictures in the entire folder. In addition, I want to display the file name and display the path in the ‘image information’ in the lower right corner.
5. Since there is a function like mask, is there a comparison function? Display error=image-gt (current image minus the selected image), and then you can change a color map.

Thanks for the comment and the suggestions.
I worked a bit on this features and hope I can solve your first 4 suggestions with these.
We will now have the option to start a collection of images using the right click menu and when using a wildcard, we can easily add multiple files at once.
It should work across file types and will work with the histogram, normalizations and the color picker.
If there are any issues with that feature, once I rebuild the vscode extension let me know.

About 5., the comparison feature I actually already thought about this, but so far I didn't manage to incorporate this well.
Best would properly be to have a small gimp style menu, where you can add multiple images on top of each other and apply different operations between them. This is also on my todo list, but requires some significant implementations to work well with the other implementations.
I definitely want to do it this year, but I can't promise when.

I've been using this for a long time, but I still don't know how to quickly add multiple files to a collection; I only know how to add single images. I'd like to be able to right-click a folder or select multiple images using left-click + Ctrl/Shift to directly add all the images in that folder to the collection.

I usually use SSH to connect to remote computers. When using wildcards, it unexpectedly scans my local directories and cannot support the directory where the images are located (maybe the path is too long? Shorter paths can display some things, although not all).

I now finally managed to work onto the better masking implementation. With the new implementation you should be able to perform different operations between the images or use an image as a mask, a bit inspired by gimp.

A good point with the wildcard not working remotely, I'm looking into this.
I already solved it onto another branch, I still need to fix some small issues and then we should have a more robust collection view.

@130040167 Ok I built a new version of the extension. Can you test if the collection feature with the wildcard now works as expected on a remote computer? You can also select multiple images in the explorer to add them to the collection. If you have any idea how you would like to be able to add multiple images to a collection let me know.

Also I added a layer view. Here you can add multiple layers to add them composite them or apply masks. You can also try out this feature.
If you have any additional ideas or if something doesnt work as expected let me know.

Excellent! The collection feature with the wildcard is working perfectly. The function to add an entire folder to the collection also works great, and loading is very fast!

However, the "Convert Colormap to Float" button has some issues. This button only appears when right-clicking on an integer-type image (uint8, binary); it doesn't appear when opening a float-type TIFF image. Furthermore, the colormap cannot be modified correctly. As shown in the image, the left side is a uint8 image; applying the colormap only darkens it. It also cannot be reverted to its original state. Similarly, this function doesn't work properly within layers.

I have some TIFF images in a special format that cannot be loaded.
Some applications use CCITT T.3 compression, resulting in the error: Unsupported TIFF compression: Unknown compression method identifier: 2
Another type of image that cannot be displayed correctly is a JPEG-compressed TIFF (YCbCr, 3 channels) image, possibly because COMPRESSION.JPEG requires the imagecodecs package.
