cool project, would be awesome to have it work! :) (even without point to point navigation)

I have burnt a DVD with a built iso image and in my car the disk is recognized but as ' too' old.

Now I suspect it to be because of the init.sdl file being completely wrong?
compared to a 03 west-europe disk and North-Amerika .iso and the init was near identical to the W-EU referencing benelux.sdl and germany etc. not the map file that is actually on disk.

comparing the NA disk it only has references to the sdl files on that disk.

I am guessing this is just part of the WIP nature of the project?
I'd like to help test if needed on real hardware, on a good note the car does recognize the disc as SDAL formatted 😄

Hi, Sorry for late reply, i missed the notification ...

I found one old image that was 100% working on my saab 9-3 CV 2004 in UK, so first of alll i found correct DVD-Burning procedure, hence, will update one in readme, second will go shopping tomorrow as occasionnaly i have only single layer DVD-R ... (it might be the case that neither CD neither DVD -single layer will not work, not 100% but much possible) so yes, even if in my case Cyprus is about 50Mb ISO i still have to burn it on double layer, and don't ask me why ... An last but not least ... i will try to compare the common files from this dis, with the one i published on github, plus verify that my converted maps are identical form inner perspective with some small country like Beneluxe...

I have had success with burning single layer DVD-R. Copied West Europe 2003 disk to a blank and it reads correctly. Would a link to that .ISO help?

Edit: I haven't tested the North-America disk I found online as it is dual layer image and I don't have those disks.

it's actually interesting, i read that that there been some FW update, to SAAB that added support for latest SDAL format, but this update nobody can find :) also, the info i read stated that this update will support both old style SDAL and new ... hence message on your ICM 3 confuses a bit ...
Thanks for sharing the ISO, i look in to it after investigate around the disk i found in my archives ... it will take some time even think "skynet" does all crappy work :)

I've read similar things. My unit is 2003 I believe with original software but the known 1.7 specification should work if implemented correctly.

Anyways very interesting and cool if it would work (even without navigation).

Unfortunately I am too busy with too many projects that I cannot contribute with the code part. But I could help test if needed

So your SAAB is basically saying:

“I recognise this as an SDAL disc, but its revision ID looks older than the one I already know.”

The burning is good enough
The drive reads the disc, parses the basic SDAL structures and gets far enough to compare a revision ID. So this is not a simple “bad burn / wrong booktype” problem.

The problem is in my meta-files, not the road data

I believe the problem is in the INIT file of the SDAL. As it gives files that are not present on the disc (misleading error of ICM) not version. If I burn the initialisation file with no map file same error.

Hi there!! Two days, and sleepless nights, but ... i fully reworked how SDL files get generated, used official NaviTec Specification for SDAL 1.7. I have not tried yet to burn, but this is the first thing in the morning. You can try on your end too, cos we were getting different messaged on ICM hence definately have different FW.

Okay ... i'm drained ... now i can clearly see why nobody even tried to do this before me ... Case is ... each head unit vendor were able to treat SDAL 1.7 in its own way ... and even boot INIT.SDAL in our OEM Denso version significantly differ from original SDAL 0.SDAL file, and bigest issues is that i have to reverse-engineer INIT.SDL cos Denso did not left specification for their SDL variant ... so both 1.0.6 and 1.0.7 may work, or may not at all ... you never know before you try.
For the rest of the code, it is completly re-written and meet SDAL 1.7 at least my validator shows same warnings on OEM DVD iso and the one i generated ...

and third option to try --format-mode SDAL you need to download recent build.sh to run this mode, it will create 0.SDL instead INIT.SDL and it will be aligned with SDAL 1.7.

This is what Saab and Mazda use. They should be all compatible as the newer Mazda disks work on older Saab cars and vice versa.

It was my bible in the beginning, before i deep dive in to how things really are. See no reason to repeat previous answer, cos it explain everything. If you confident that our head unit uses true SDAL try latest option i described in a previous answer. Or not try at all ) up to you.

I will test when I find some time and see what files are produced and if the ICM accepts any disks

I will now try WE_06Q4 image on my car cos even after i replaced laser pickup unit in my DVD i have no confidence it is reading anything at all... Then if test is positive on trusted DVD - I will burn one of three options i bespoke )

It was bloody head ache to use navi in SAAB then i was living in UK but for some unknown to me reason, i wanna make this working ... at least give a second life to multiple Navi devices ... ))

UPDATED: DVD Unit is dead ... ordering anothe and keep fingers crossed it will work ...
