Select and copy text in logs

I'm not able to select or copy the output of docker logs

Describe the solution you'd like
I would like to be able to select text in logs and copy them using the context menu of the mouse, similar as when I execute docker-compose logs

I've tried this both on the default ubuntu terminal and guake (in ubuntu) with lazydocker v0.7.4

I don't think it's doable with gocui. Disabling mouse events and trying to select text in logs, it just selects every single character that is currently on terminal, even frames which is not desirable.

The only way to copy logs cleanly for now I guess is:

1. Press m to attach to container
2. Copy logs
3. Return to lazydocker by pressing ctrl-c

@angrykoala I am able to copy text from lazydocker by holding option and command (I'm on a mac) and dragging over the area I want to copy. It only allows for selecting a rectangle of characters because it's not possible to scope the drag to just the main panel, but it gets the job done. Perhaps that would solve your issue?

@jesseduffield It is a reasonable workaround but not ideal, for copying it's still better just accessing the logs directly

For Linux users on PC, CTRL + Shift works just like @jesseduffield mentioned.

On recent macOS with Ghostty, you can hold shift and drag the mouse to select.

what do you guys think about this implementation.

• Double click the line you want the selection to start then click the end line then press 'c' to copy the selected lines
• or click a line you want the selection to start with then press 'v' to go to visual mode then select the endline finally click c to copy the selected lines

I like the first one, looks more intuitive. I don't mind the second one but this one first one is better for me.

@dagimg-dot Solution 1 won't work for copying long URLs unless you are able to detect the following lines are part of the same URL, which, I presume, is tricky.

Sadly, accessing logs and being able to extract info from them was the main reason I'm considering lazydocker. :/

I think it already does that for lines that are counted as one but due to screen size limitation wrapped around. I am currently using my build for my day to day use and its serving me good thus far.

I found a workaround by reading other issues: press m in the target container to attach to the logs view. There you can copy normally. Not ideal, but it works.
