Problem
After moving our CloudBees managed controller to HA, the Gerrit Trigger plugin no longer connects to Gerrit on the DEV controller.
The plugin appears to initialize, and the logs show:

But when the connection wakeup happens, it fails with:
SEVERE c.s.h.p.g.trigger.GerritServer#doWakeup: Could not start connection.
java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "com.sonymobile.tools.gerrit.gerritevents.GerritHandler.setIgnoreEMail(String, String)" because "this.gerritEventManager" is null
at com.sonyericsson.hudson.plugins.gerrit.trigger.GerritServer.startConnection(GerritServer.java:592)
at com.sonyericsson.hudson.plugins.gerrit.trigger.GerritServer.doWakeup(GerritServer.java:1080)
This is happening on multiple replicas, not just one pod.
What we observed
- The issue started after enabling HA / multi-replica controllers.
- We do not see a normal SSH/auth/network failure to Gerrit in the logs.
- The plugin reaches the point where the Gerrit server is marked as started, but then fails internally with the gerritEventManager NPE.
- We reproduced the same failure on at least 2 controller replicas.
Example timestamps from two replicas:

Steps to reproduce
We cannot provide a minimal standalone reproduction yet, but the pattern is:
- Run a CloudBees managed controller in HA / active-active mode with multiple replicas.
- Configure Gerrit Trigger against a Gerrit server (review.trustedfirmware.org in our case).
- Let the controller start and/or reload configuration.
- Trigger the Gerrit connection wakeup.
- Observe GerritServer#doWakeup failing with gerritEventManager being null.
Question
Is Gerrit Trigger expected to work in this HA / active-active controller topology, or is there a known limitation? If it is expected to work, is there already a fix or workaround for
the gerritEventManager initialization race / null state?
