I think we should plan on the next release of pip-tools being version 8.0.0 .
In particular, it's time for us to drop support for pip's legacy resolver. It's finally being removed from pip itself, and we're not doing ourselves or our users any favors by letting our support posture lag behind.
I also plan to assess compatibility breaking changes which were planned or queued up in the past, for consideration.
cc @webknjaz, any objection to making this our plan? I'd rename the v7.6.2 milestone and start queuing up various issues which need to be tackled.
