Explore: Soulbound Tokens #34

Description

@rober-m

Summary

Non-transferable tokens bound to a single holder: credentials, badges, reputation, memberships, proof-of-attendance. The token can be issued and (optionally) revoked, but not moved between wallets.

Category: Native Tokens (likely a CIP-113 substandard)

Status

To be researched. This candidate is listed in the catalog tracker but has not yet been explored in depth. This issue is a placeholder to collect prior art, use cases, and design questions before a full exploration writeup.

Why this is a candidate

  • Ecosystem demand: Steady; the building block behind on-chain credentials, DAO membership, and reputation systems.
  • Reusability: Likely realizable as a CIP-113 substandard (non-transferable profile) rather than a standalone contract; see the CIP-113 substandards tracker (Explore adding CIP-113 substandards #2).

To research

  • Whether this is best expressed as a CIP-113 substandard (Explore adding CIP-113 substandards #2) or an independent primitive.
  • Revocation model: who may burn / revoke, and under what authority (composes with Multisig / Smart Wallet Explore: Multisig / Smart Wallet #11).
  • Prior art on Cardano and other ecosystems (ERC-5192 minimal soulbound, Gitcoin Passport, POAP).
  • Audit-tractable scope.

Exploration deliverables

  • Prior-art survey (Cardano + other ecosystems)
  • Decide standalone vs CIP-113 substandard (Explore adding CIP-113 substandards #2)
  • Use-case list and reusability / composability check against the catalog
  • Lightweight design sketch
  • Composability check against ARCHITECTURE.md
  • Recommendation: implement now / later / never (with reason)
