STATUS — checknow-rs

CHECKNOW-RS.1 — sealed. A faithful Rust port of upstream checknow.awk, the IANA tzdb zonenow.tab consistency checker.

Live status

  • 2026b verdict: byte-identical to the awk oracle — both now and 1970 checks yield the pass verdict (exit 0, no output) over frozen zdump -i tables; admitted source ffad46a0… + OpenPGP GOODSIG; checknow.awk 094a8817….
  • 4 negative fixtures (no-data · identical-from-now-on · missing-coverage · baseline) — each reproduces awk's exact stdout + exit.
  • All-release verdict sweep: 48 signed bundles; checknow.awk + zonenow.tab are a 2023d addition → 8 runnable; verdict-set fidelity 8/8 (0 port bugs); 6 reproduce the release's own checknow byte-for-byte; 2 check evolution.
  • --tzdb-dir orchestrates system zic/zdump like make now.ck.
  • Kani: the $3 field access is total. Fuzzing: 313,177 runs, 0 crashes.
  • Zero runtime dependencies; #![forbid(unsafe_code)]; gate fmt · clippy -D warnings · 5 tests.

Non-claims

Does not define tzdb policy or civil-time truth, is not a stricter checker. checknow.awk + zonenow.tab are a 2023d addition → 8 of 48 bundles runnable. END coverage loop sorts for determinism (verdict set identical to gawk's hash order). Bounded to the admitted releases, this awk/zic/zdump, host.
