Can't link apps in /Applications/Nix\ Apps

When building with
nh darwin switch .#darwinConfigurations.<hostname>
the App linking stage complains that

> Activating configuration
setting up groups...
setting up users...
setting up /Applications/Nix Apps...
warning: /Applications/Nix Apps is not owned by nix-darwin, skipping App linking...

Building with
sudo darwin-rebuild switch --flake .#<hostname>
results in the same.

Current ownership:

$ ls -ahl /Applications/Nix\ Apps/
total 4
drwxr-xr-x  3 root admin   96 2025-07-01 21:33 .
drwxrwxr-x 49 root admin 1.5K 2025-07-02 14:13 ..
-rw-r--r--  1 root admin 1.2K 2025-07-01 21:33 kitty.app

What ownership should I set for the directory?

Is this a mac-app-util problem or a problem with your installation of nix-darwin ? If you completely disable mac-app-util, do you still get the issue?

Was not mac-app-util's fault. Managed to fix, apologies for the bother!

removed the original Nix Apps dir and re-ran nix-darwin I think
