Hi Greg,
Thanks for maintaining this benchmark.
We'd like to use the Join Order Benchmark queries in an open-source project, primarily for internal query-optimizer regression testing, and potentially as a documented, reproducible benchmark. Before we do, we want to make sure we have clear permission.
Right now the repository doesn't include a LICENSE file or any declared license for the SQL queries. The source paper (How Good Are Query Optimizers, Really?) states the benchmark is publicly available to facilitate further research and encourages the community to use it, which is great, but that isn't a formal license, and the paper itself is published under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, which creates some ambiguity for us.
Would you be open to adding an explicit, permissive license for the query files (for example MIT, BSD, or Apache-2.0) so downstream projects have clear redistribution rights?
To be clear, this request is about the benchmark queries only. We understand the IMDB-derived dataset is governed separately by IMDB's own terms.
Even a short statement here clarifying the intended license for the queries would help a lot.
Thanks!
