Database Schema

Currently, the application uses in-memory storage for test results. For production deployment, implement a proper database schema:

Recommended Tables

tests

CREATE TABLE tests (
    id VARCHAR(50) PRIMARY KEY,
    url VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL,
    test_types JSON,
    status VARCHAR(20),
    created_at TIMESTAMP,
    completed_at TIMESTAMP,
    overall_score INTEGER
);

test_results

CREATE TABLE test_results (
    id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT,
    test_id VARCHAR(50) REFERENCES tests(id),
    category VARCHAR(50),
    results JSON,
    created_at TIMESTAMP
);

reports

CREATE TABLE reports (
    id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT,
    test_id VARCHAR(50) REFERENCES tests(id),
    format VARCHAR(10),
    filename VARCHAR(200),
    filepath VARCHAR(500),
    created_at TIMESTAMP
);

Configuration Management

Environment Variables

Create a .env file in the backend directory:

# Flask Configuration
FLASK_ENV=production
FLASK_DEBUG=False
SECRET_KEY=your-secret-key-here
PORT=5000

# Database Configuration (if using external database)
DATABASE_URL=postgresql://user:password@localhost/ai_testing

# AWS Configuration (optional)
AWS_DEFAULT_REGION=us-east-1

# AI Service Configuration
OPENAI_API_KEY=your-openai-key-here

# Security Configuration
CORS_ORIGINS=http://localhost:3000,http://localhost:5173

# Logging Configuration
LOG_LEVEL=INFO
LOG_FILE=/var/log/ai-testing-platform.log

Configuration Classes

# config.py
import os
from datetime import timedelta

class Config:
    SECRET_KEY = os.environ.get('SECRET_KEY') or 'dev-secret-key'
    CORS_ORIGINS = os.environ.get('CORS_ORIGINS', '*').split(',')

class DevelopmentConfig(Config):
    DEBUG = True
    TESTING = False

class ProductionConfig(Config):
    DEBUG = False
    TESTING = False

class TestingConfig(Config):
    DEBUG = True
    TESTING = True

config = {
    'development': DevelopmentConfig,
    'production': ProductionConfig,
    'testing': TestingConfig,
    'default': DevelopmentConfig
}

Security Considerations

Input Validation

All user inputs are validated to prevent injection attacks:

def validate_url(url):
    """Validate URL format and security"""
    if not url or not isinstance(url, str):
        raise ValueError("URL is required")

    # Check URL format
    parsed = urlparse(url)
    if not parsed.scheme or not parsed.netloc:
        raise ValueError("Invalid URL format")

    # Security checks
    if parsed.scheme not in ['http', 'https']:
        raise ValueError("Only HTTP/HTTPS URLs are allowed")

    # Prevent internal network access
    if parsed.netloc in ['localhost', '127.0.0.1', '0.0.0.0']:
        raise ValueError("Internal URLs are not allowed")

    return url

Rate Limiting

Implement rate limiting to prevent abuse:

from flask_limiter import Limiter
from flask_limiter.util import get_remote_address

limiter = Limiter(
    app,
    key_func=get_remote_address,
    default_limits=["100 per hour"]
)

@app.route('/api/test/start', methods=['POST'])
@limiter.limit("10 per minute")
def start_test():
    # Test logic here
    pass

Data Protection

  • Sanitize all outputs to prevent XSS
  • Use HTTPS in production
  • Implement proper session management
  • Secure file upload and download mechanisms

AWS Credentials Security

  • Never log AWS credentials
  • Use IAM roles when possible
  • Implement credential rotation
  • Validate permissions before use

Performance Optimization

Backend Optimization

  1. Asynchronous Processing
import asyncio
from concurrent.futures import ThreadPoolExecutor

async def run_tests_async(url, test_types):
    """Run tests concurrently for better performance"""
    loop = asyncio.get_event_loop()

    with ThreadPoolExecutor(max_workers=3) as executor:
        tasks = []

        if 'web' in test_types:
            tasks.append(loop.run_in_executor(
                executor, web_service.run_comprehensive_test, url
            ))

        if 'security' in test_types:
            tasks.append(loop.run_in_executor(
                executor, security_service.run_security_test, url
            ))

        results = await asyncio.gather(*tasks)
        return results
  1. Caching Strategy
from functools import lru_cache
import redis

# In-memory caching for DNS lookups
@lru_cache(maxsize=1000)
def resolve_domain(domain):
    return socket.gethostbyname(domain)

# Redis caching for test results
redis_client = redis.Redis(host='localhost', port=6379, db=0)

def cache_test_result(test_id, results):
    redis_client.setex(
        f"test:{test_id}",
        timedelta(hours=24),
        json.dumps(results)
    )
  1. Database Optimization
  • Use connection pooling
  • Implement proper indexing
  • Use prepared statements
  • Optimize query patterns

Frontend Optimization

  1. Code Splitting
// Lazy load components
const TestResults = lazy(() => import('./components/TestResults'));
const Reports = lazy(() => import('./components/Reports'));

// Use Suspense for loading states
<Suspense fallback={<LoadingSpinner />}>
  <TestResults />
</Suspense>
  1. State Management
// Use React Context for global state
const AppContext = createContext();

export const AppProvider = ({ children }) => {
  const [tests, setTests] = useState([]);
  const [currentTest, setCurrentTest] = useState(null);

  return (
    <AppContext.Provider value={{ tests, setTests, currentTest, setCurrentTest }}>
      {children}
    </AppContext.Provider>
  );
};
  1. Performance Monitoring
// Monitor component performance
import { Profiler } from 'react';

function onRenderCallback(id, phase, actualDuration) {
  console.log('Component:', id, 'Phase:', phase, 'Duration:', actualDuration);
}

<Profiler id="TestConfiguration" onRender={onRenderCallback}>
  <TestConfiguration />
</Profiler>

Testing Strategy

Backend Testing

# test_web_testing_service.py
import unittest
from unittest.mock import patch, MagicMock
from src.services.web_testing_service import WebTestingService

class TestWebTestingService(unittest.TestCase):
    def setUp(self):
        self.service = WebTestingService()

    @patch('playwright.sync_api.sync_playwright')
    def test_run_comprehensive_test(self, mock_playwright):
        # Mock Playwright browser
        mock_page = MagicMock()
        mock_page.goto.return_value = None
        mock_page.evaluate.return_value = 1000

        # Test the service
        result = self.service.run_comprehensive_test('https://example.com')

        # Assertions
        self.assertIn('overall_score', result)
        self.assertIn('tests', result)
        self.assertTrue(0 <= result['overall_score'] <= 100)

Frontend Testing

// TestConfiguration.test.jsx
import { render, screen, fireEvent, waitFor } from '@testing-library/react';
import { BrowserRouter } from 'react-router-dom';
import TestConfiguration from '../components/TestConfiguration';

const renderWithRouter = (component) => {
  return render(
    <BrowserRouter>
      {component}
    </BrowserRouter>
  );
};

describe('TestConfiguration', () => {
  test('validates URL input', async () => {
    renderWithRouter(<TestConfiguration />);

    const urlInput = screen.getByPlaceholderText('https://example.com');
    const startButton = screen.getByText('Start Test');

    // Test invalid URL
    fireEvent.change(urlInput, { target: { value: 'invalid-url' } });
    fireEvent.click(startButton);

    await waitFor(() => {
      expect(screen.getByText('Please enter a valid URL')).toBeInTheDocument();
    });
  });
});

Integration Testing

# test_api_integration.py
import unittest
import json
from src.main import app

class TestAPIIntegration(unittest.TestCase):
    def setUp(self):
        self.app = app.test_client()
        self.app.testing = True

    def test_start_test_endpoint(self):
        # Test data
        test_data = {
            'url': 'https://example.com',
            'test_types': ['web', 'security']
        }

        # Make request
        response = self.app.post(
            '/api/test/start',
            data=json.dumps(test_data),
            content_type='application/json'
        )

        # Assertions
        self.assertEqual(response.status_code, 200)
        data = json.loads(response.data)
        self.assertIn('test_id', data)
        self.assertIn('status', data)

Monitoring and Logging

Application Logging

import logging
from logging.handlers import RotatingFileHandler

# Configure logging
logging.basicConfig(
    level=logging.INFO,
    format='%(asctime)s %(levelname)s %(name)s %(message)s'
)

    listen 80;
    server_name your-domain.com;

    location / {
        proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:5000;
        proxy_set_header Host $host;
        proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr;
        proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for;
        proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto $scheme;
    }

    location /static {
        alias /path/to/ai-testing-app/backend/src/static;
        expires 1y;
        add_header Cache-Control "public, immutable";
    }
}

Scaling Considerations

  1. Horizontal Scaling

    • Use load balancers (nginx, HAProxy)
    • Implement session affinity or stateless design
    • Use external storage for reports and temporary files
  2. Vertical Scaling

    • Monitor CPU and memory usage
    • Optimize test execution concurrency
    • Implement resource limits and quotas
  3. Database Scaling

    • Implement read replicas for reporting
    • Use connection pooling
    • Consider sharding for large datasets
