This is a bit more of a crazy idea, but yamlscript.org, could be a powerful addition for taskfiles. It mixes Clojure and YAML https://yamlscript.org/blog/2025-07-24/why-ys-chose-clojure/

It is powerful yet remains 100% backward compatible with plain yaml.

There is a very useful and established yq program, written in Go, that might be more suitable to integrate. But I can't suggest how/what for ... perhaps as an alternative to the Go based templating? Some kind of "dynamic" yaml file, transformed while parsing/reading.

I had thought about integrating Lua (as an alternative to sh dynamic variables) ... you can call Lua from sh so there might not be much point in that.

yq is YAML processor, YAMLsript is LISP programming language.. so they serve different purposes. Since it is functional, it can be quite compact, for transformation, aggregation...
