Similar to how oracle adapter implements using sequences and :autosequence option that will guess the sequence to use based on the table name.

According to OpenEdge docs on SQL development (7 - SQL and ABL interoperability, 14 working with triggers), triggers created using SQL engine will not be executed in ABL engine and vice versa. There's also no way of adding an ABL trigger using SQL AFAICS.

This slightly decreases the usefulness of this feature as it simply wouldn't work from ABL unfortunately.
