Assets & Attribution

This document describes the licensing and attribution status of non-code assets used by Spacegun Simulator.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, assets are NOT covered by the MIT License. The MIT License applies to source code only.

Audio Assets – Drum Loops & Percussion

Overview

Spacegun Simulator includes a library of drum loops and percussive audio material used by the procedural music system.

These audio assets are:

  • Freely acquired from public or permissively licensed sources
  • Included with visible attribution
  • Accompanied by source URLs where applicable
  • Used as components within a procedural system, not as standalone music tracks

Some drum loops are simplified, transformed, or emulated interpretations of licensed or copyrighted music styles.

No claim of ownership is made over original compositions, recordings, or performances.

Attribution & Provenance

Each drum loop file included with the game:

  • Is openly viewable by players
  • Includes a source URL or attribution note (where available)
  • Retains its original filename or identifying metadata when possible

Attribution is provided in good faith to credit original creators and sources.

If a specific audio file includes additional license terms, those terms take precedence.

Licensing Clarification

  • Source code: MIT License (see LICENSE)
  • Audio assets: Covered by their original licenses or usage terms
  • Narrative, setting, and game identity: All rights reserved

Audio assets are provided as-is for use within Spacegun Simulator. They are not relicensed under MIT.

If you intend to reuse audio assets from this repository outside of this project, you are responsible for reviewing and complying with the original source licenses.

Transformative Use

Drum loops may be:

  • Time-stretched
  • Filtered
  • Layered
  • Sequenced
  • Combined with synthesis and DSP effects

These transformations are applied at runtime as part of a generative music system. They are not intended to replicate or replace original recordings.

Visual Assets (ASCII / Text)

ASCII art, diagrams, and textual layouts included in the game are part of the game’s narrative presentation and identity.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, these elements are:

  • Not covered by the MIT License
  • Considered part of the game’s creative expression

Good-Faith Use Statement

Spacegun Simulator is a non-deceptive, good-faith project.

  • No audio assets are presented as original compositions if they are not
  • No attempt is made to obscure or remove attribution
  • No implication of endorsement by original creators is intended

If you are an asset creator and believe attribution is missing or incorrect, please open an issue and it will be addressed promptly.

Summary

  • ✔ Code is open-source (MIT)
  • ✔ Audio assets retain original attribution
  • ✔ No ownership is claimed over third-party material
  • ✔ Narrative and identity remain proprietary

This separation ensures clarity, respect for creators, and long-term sustainability of the project.
