For the RPM and DEB downloads, the "normal" method would be to have this either as part of the main distro or as a separate repo to include. Right now the app only installs "as is" and does neither report an out-of-date version nor any option to upgrade this manual install from within the app.
Very likely the same (the reporting of "out-of-date") should also be true for flatpak and Nix, yet there is at least some sort of package management and upgrade path. Hence the problem doesn't surface that strongly there.
