This idea comes from another program i use (softimage):
hold shift to change the behaviour of a slider.
Let's say you want to set a float and the decimal numbers are quite precise. Then hold shift and it goes in smaller steps.
I believe max/msp has something like that as well, where holding shift changes values in front of the dot of the decimal, and else the numbers behind the dot.
Also for integers, 1 pixels at the time can be slow sometimes.
