You may consider these two modern setups:

Parcel comes with some disadvantages that may be deal breakers for some. I don't know how well those two work though, they might have their own issues.

The problem with Parcel is that it forces you to ship minified code

• Use human-readable variable names instead of $a3b86e0361d88a0cf0c1608dc4320503$$interop$default parcel-bundler/parcel#6092
• Replace Rollup with Parcel hankxdev/one-click-extensions-manager#125 (comment)

Rollup might be best for extensions but it's still a pain to configure.
