Fishing controller compatibility?

I’ve been recently getting into fishing games, and I’ve heard Dreamcast has the best. I was looking into Dreamcast emulation and I’ve heard this is the best emulator. I was wondering if the original Dreamcast fishing controller is compatible with a usb converter, or if other similar controllers are compatible. I’ve seen conflicting reports online of it working and not working and working with some compatibly not there? I was directed here after asking the same question in the flycast subreddit

The Dreamcast fishing controller is emulated by Flycast but with some limitations: the original fishing controller has a 3-axes accelerometer, which is emulated by the right analog stick (X and Y) and a third analog stick (Z), which is missing on most gamepads.
Using the original fishing controller with a USB adapter is unlikely to work for the same reasons.
Another solution is to use the DreamPicoPort adapter although I don't think it has been tested with the fishing controller.

I don't have maracas, but based on documentation, it implements keys A, B, C, D, Z, Start as well as 2 analog "sticks". That all should be supported by DreamPicoPort itself. What's in flycast dev branch properly maps the C, D, and Z buttons now. The only thing I can't be certain of at the moment is if the second analog input is properly mapped in flycast. I'll make a note to check that this week.
