[QUESTION] Bindy usage

Can we use Bindy to only manage DNS entries (A, AAAA, CNAME, ...) in an existing bind9 instance, that is running e.g. on a remote VM.

Hi @christianhuth, that is certainly an interesting use case. At the moment, short answer is no, as it's an operator managing Bind9Instance resources, which in turn manages the whole bind9 suite to keep it running, e.g. Deployment, ConfigMap and RNDC Secrets.

You could technically migrate your existing bind9, with your existing config directly over. It should be a matter of copying your named.conf files from VM to ConfigMap, as we support "Bring Your Own Config".

I think it may be worth creating a script that could convert an existing bind9 instance/conf into bindy CRs.

Hi @ebourgeois thanks for answering. I already thought that it's sadly not supported (at the moment). I think this could be quite useful as this would open up the possibility to target an existing bind9 instance from any cluster. Currently you are limited to bind9 running in the same cluster. Or am I wrong about that assumption?
