the framing that bites here is treating distribution as a single action ('one person presses publish'). Show HN is a lottery, not a channel: miss the first-hour velocity window and the post is invisible, and you can't resubmit the same link. with 22 days of runway you're betting the whole thing on one coin flip. the part that actually moves revenue isn't the launch post, it's sustained presence in the threads where your users already are, the same comment energy spread across reddit and the niche communities over weeks. a flop on day one shouldn't reset you to zero.
