Support for iOS27

Obviously, this is till in beta but i have noticed that if I dont go into offline mode, the app just hangs. Looking at the log, it appears there are some really long api wait times.

I can get it to work if i then switch to online mode after it has loaded, a reading sync will work fine but a data sync will get stuck on syncing series

Thanks for testing this on the iOS 27 beta.

I also upgraded one device to iOS 27 and tested with Xcode beta + the iOS 27 simulator locally. I haven't been able to reproduce the hang so far: the app opens normally and sync completes for me.

Since this is still an early beta and the logs mostly show very long API waits, I don't have a clear app-side fix yet. Let's keep this open and see whether later iOS/Xcode beta updates improve it.

I found a likely cause: this looks like a known SwiftData issue in the iOS 27 beta release notes.

You might experience a deadlock for @query when saving a ModelContext on a background actor while scheduling new async tasks for a ModelActor. (178113288)

KMReader uses SwiftData during data sync, so the sync hang on iOS 27 beta is likely hitting this OS-level issue. I'll keep this open and re-test as newer iOS/Xcode betas are released.

That makes sense. I think it may be on just larger libraries. I spun up a new instance and am adding books a bit at a time to see at what point it hangs up. I ch ed cked the sql database and that appears fine but it’s over a gig in size so maybe that amount of data is tripping it up. I wonder if there is a way to disable the refresh at startup for the time being or to have persistent offline mode that you can toggle off/on at startup. My work around has been going to airplane mode and then switching it back off after everything has loaded.

There is already a manual offline mode toggle that should help here.

During the startup loading screen, there should be an offline button. After the app loads, the dashboard top-right menu also has "Enter Offline Mode". Manual offline mode is persisted, so once it is enabled, the next launch should skip the online startup refresh.

So this should work as a cleaner workaround than airplane mode for now. If it does not persist correctly on iOS 27 beta, please let me know since that would be a separate bug.
