This is a copy of a message from @doblerone to the euro-cordex-modellers list, to keep track of it and have it in mind in our evaluation.
One of our HCLIM colleagues discovered some sea-ice in the Gulf of Bothnia and Gulf of Finland in the ERA5 data in July 2021, see attached screenshots (map 1.7.2021 and timeline of one of the points with sea-ice). Although that was a bad summer in the North as far as I remember, sea-ice is rather unlikely.
I have sent a message to CDS support to check.
I have quickly checked our HCLIM evaluation simulation and the sea-ice is also visible there.
Maybe have a look at your ERA5 downscaling :-)
Afaik, the default evaluation period is ending 2020, right? So at least that's outside that period.
