Updating through docker.

Quick question. I set up a docker using "latest". When I want to update the lms version through docker, will this work:

1. turn off docker container.
2. download new "latest" image (deleting current "latest" image if necessary).
3. turn container back on

Where do i input that? Can i type that into terminal?

You need to create a file docker-compose.yml

` services:

 lms:
     image: epoupon/lms:latest
     container_name: lms
     ports:
        - 5082:5082
     volumes:
        - ./music:/music:ro
        - ./data:/var/lms
        - ./conf:/etc
     restart: unless-stopped`

Then, enter these commands in the terminal.

docker compose pull - Downloads the image
docker compose up -d - Creates a container and runs it
docker compose down - Stops the container and deletes it, while all settings and data are saved in the folders configured in the file.

Altrernative solution(s):

When using synology container manager (only applicable for synology systems):
Download latest image, stop container, reset container, start container

Or what i do, is have a Portainer docker running.
This is an usefull app/ui which manages your docker containers.
Select container, recreate image, enable re-pull image.

It looks like resetting a container loses all the data of that container. So do I have to start lms from scratch every time it updates?

Very important information!

Information in the Docker container is considered volatile. Updating the Docker is as simple as throwing it away and recreating a new one.

You can mount a shared folder for permanent data. Then when you recreate the Docker, it will remount the folder and have its data.

For lms i have mounted 2 folders
Usr/local/etc and var/lms

ok thanks. Yea, i have a similar folder setup. Will lms have to rescan the folder to add all the music back in? and will any settings inside of lms have to be reset again?

I guess these are minor, but wondering if it has to be done each time it updates.
