Currently, if there are any <note> or <note place="foot"> elements inside of the text of a play, these are just displayed as part of the main text in parentheses. It might be visually misleading to use parentheses for displaying authorial or editorial notes that are either part of a print edition already and are usually footnotes there or that are added by editors.
I propose to display footnotes similar to our implementation in Carmen Nova. I would place footnotes in smaller font right underneath the passage/paragraph where they occur. I would also suggest to number them.
