Offer More Mapping Services

I don't know too much about mapping data in Supercell Wx, so I could be completely wrong, but I was wondering why you have to use MapTiler or Mapbox as map sources. Is it not possible to use free layers with MapLibre such as CARTO's?

It's certainly possible. Some day there will be a free map that requires no payment, such as OpenStreetMap. However, it's currently not high priority. I haven't dug into the CARTO service that you've listed *above though, I'll start digging into it.

a) I'd like to talk about how custom map services could be possible just a little more. Custom maps already do work if you are using MapBox or MapTiler, so, if the code was tweaked and supported it, you could get any custom map providers to work, as long as they are compatible with *MapLibre.

b) CARTO doesn't seem to support C++ directly, but you can use MapLibre to render while the code talks to CARTO services, just like what you said. CARTO is meant for large enterprises and requires a license to use, so I'm not sure if it would be the best idea to be supported as a dedicated option.

I was more thinking of it as a way to avoid an account with MapTiler or Mapbox, similar to the OSM suggestion. Again, I don't know much about mapping, as I have only used the CARTO maps in MapLibre GL JS because they offered a free API.

I downloaded the linux appimage from the develop branch and this change seems good so far. I'll keep it up and see how it feels longer term. This one does feel like the gl_style tiles with smooth zoom and I definitely like it.

There's a tileserver-gl instance up at https://tileserver-rbt-agc-dev.apps.kubic.dev.ngaxc.net/ someone may be able to test against for a few different formats. This one is used in ATAK as one of the defaults and I also spun up my own instance to use internally.
I'd really like to see the gl_style supported for custom/selfhosted tileserver urls, but I'd settle for the xyz format as it's widely supported in lots of apps.

@cullorblind Thanks for the feedback! Is there a specific GL Style link that doesn't work? I plugged the first one in at the link you provided as the Custom Map URL and it works great for me.

I'm completely blind. Actually I was at work earlier and this didn't have my full attention. Some storms coming through and I figured I'd check on the rader project I was interested in.
Using the tilegl/glstyle url works perfectly. =)
