could we support templates into single repos?

Since it is a root repo with multiple templates, when running azd init -t dotnet/ai-samples. It creates an empty azure.yaml with name only and a .azure folder. However, users are not able to run azd commands directly in root path. Is it possible to consider separate these templates into single repos? Not placing azure.yaml file in root directory also cause telemetry unable to identify traffic from specific ai-samples' template.
