Explore CodeRabbit CLI integration #149

Description

@ichoosetoaccept

Context

CodeRabbit Pro is now active on all public repos in the detailobsessed org. Devin Review moved to private repos only. The CodeRabbit CLI (coderabbit) is installed and authenticated.

Tasks

  • Test coderabbit review --plain --base main on branches with substantive diffs (config-only changes produce empty output)
  • Evaluate --prompt-only mode for AI agent integration
  • Compare CLI review quality vs PR review quality
  • Check if CodeRabbit has an MCP server we could use alongside or instead of codereviewbuddy
  • Evaluate CodeRabbit editor extension (Windsurf/VS Code)
  • Determine if codereviewbuddy still adds value with CodeRabbit as the primary reviewer (likely yes for: triage, stack workflows, batch operations)
  • Test rate limits on Pro tier (8 reviews/hour)

Notes

  • CLI takes ~22-45s per review depending on diff size
  • --plain and --prompt-only modes showed no output for small diffs — may need substantive code changes to trigger findings
  • issue_enrichment.auto_enrich.enabled: true in .coderabbit.yaml causes gh issue create to hang
