Where are environment variables stored?

Hello all,
I have run fabric /setup several times and attempted to change the default model. In "~/config/fabric/.env", I can see that the changes are taking effect, but when I run fabric without explicitly stating which model I want, it defaults to the previous model I had set before running fabric /setup.

Is there another environment variable store that I need to wipe out or update?

I'm on Windows 11.

There's no other place for the environment variables (unless somehow you have DEFAULT_VENDOR and DEFAULT_MODEL set somewhere else in your environment)

Could you please demonstrate what is actually happening? (Copy and paste the Fabric commands you are running and the output.)

I was running this command:
C:\Data>fabric /p summarize_legislation < title50c7.txt

And seeing this result:

FRED --> model "deepseek-r1-distill-qwen-7b" not found, try pulling it first
model "deepseek-r1-distill-qwen-7b" not found, try pulling it first

However, your mention of the system environment variables was the clue I needed. I found an environment variable on my system for DEFAULT_MODEL that was set to deepseek-r1-distill-qwen-7b. Deleting that seems to have solved the issue.
