The current support of pdf and epub is very good, but unfortunately it is still necessary to use webarchives or kiwix to browse zim files. Zim files most often lack javascript anyway (and only a very small minority would even benefit from it), so the parsing shouldn't be more complex than html+css or gopher/gemini.
