The current ratings system seems to reward playing a lot instead of having a win rate proportionate to your ELO. The leaderboard has people with 20,000 ELO which sounds ridiculous to anyone familiar with ELO. While the system doesn't need to be zero-sum, it should probably be shifted in a fairer direction than where it is currently. I'm happy to submit a PR.
With a standard ELO system, 2000 would represent a very high score and extremely skilled player, but in WorldGuessr, anyone can reach it extremely quickly. I propose modifying the ELO system to make it more similar to existing systems that have widespread usage.
