If you filter for brass and get a lead
I though that for patches with multiple categories, the ones in filter don't show if there are others that are not in the filter and can show instead.
That is / would be actually pretty great in my opinion - I don't need to see the color of the category I'm filtering out, I want to see the other one(s) if preset.
I was taking this expectation into consideration when imagining a "drill-down" through the multi level category structure outlined above.
So I think our perspectives are opposite.
Diagonal stripes? Colour gradient?
Was thinking about this as well. It would be messy, diagonal or vertical. Another idea would be to have small colored squares / dots in the top right corner of the box. The synth category color for the patch box and the rest in the corner.
Still, the dynamically changing single color still might be the best option.
It might benefit from a counter of assigned categories in one corner though, or maybe better a minimalistic indicator, that appears when there are multiple categories assigned (without showing counts).
