Investigate private permission grants #1

Description

@nnmrts

Some mod authors have granted us private permission to create patches, communicated through platforms like Nexus Mods or Discord DMs. Currently, this permission is displayed as a simple text entry, e.g., “Private messages (Discord),” without any link or further proof, since the permission itself is private.

Objectives:

  • Determine whether the current approach (text entry without link/proof) is sufficient to meet transparency and legal/community standards.
  • If not, evaluate how to obtain explicit permission from the involved parties for:
    • Publishing screenshots of permission grant DMs.
    • Redacting personal information (e.g., profile pictures or identifiable details) when involved parties are unresponsive.

Further Considerations:

  • Explore better alternatives for managing and displaying private permissions:
    • For example, creating a shared Google Doc or similar repository where mod authors can confirm permissions directly and more formally.

This investigation aims to ensure compliance, transparency, and respect for privacy while improving the clarity and reliability of our permission documentation process.
