I found that forcing smb v2 on windows 10 or windows server 2008 would still work, but not on windows 7 or windows server 2008.

Using wireshark to capture a packet, I find that this error is likely caused by NegotiateContextOffset, because for server 2012 or later, the value is 0, and other versions have different values

Hey thanks for the issue. I would definitely consider supporting older versions of windows, especially if someone was to contribute changes to make it work. I think this is along the line of what this project could become which is a general use SMB client. I think being able to negotiate the highest protocol version is what it wants eventually, it could start with making users pick a version.

I'm not actively working on it but plan to come back, but most of my development goals were to focus on support for the latest versions of windows and latest features, so I don't know if I'll look down that path myself, but I'm more than happy to help someone else get it working and contribute it.
