PIMPLE Solver is acting weird - PC turns itself off

Dear Bruno,

Unfortunately InterFoam exits without any error message or anything, and the pc turns itself off.
The last step saved was 3844, so the simulation stopped just before its completion (endTime = 4000).

I let this case running twice, with the same identical result.
I have enough free space on my drive, so I might rule out that the simulation aborted for that.
How to deal with this?

Unfortunately InterFoam exits without any error message or anything, and the pc turns itself off.

There are three major possibilities, given that the PC is turning itself off:

1. Windows might be wanting to install an update that requires rebooting, although it usually doesn't do this automatically and then shutdown.

2. The power options might be configured to turn off or go into sleep after X hours.

3. Or the worst case scenario, where the CPU is overheating due to insufficient cooling and turns off to avoid auto-destruction due to meltdown.

The respective solutions should be:

1. Check the history of the Windows updates, to see if they match when the computer shutdown. If this was the case, you can turn off auto-updates for a few days.

2. Check the power settings in Windows... and look for the details under which conditions it should go to sleep and/or shutdown.

3. Install a software that gives you the ability to track the CPU temperature. I more commonly use Speedfan for checking the CPU and motherboard temperatures: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php - make sure to click on the link associated to the text The latest version is SpeedFan 4.52 or similar, because the advertisements on that page sometimes confuse people, because those sometimes say "click here to download", when they should not...

   • CPU temperatures above 75ºC are very concerning when running for extended periods of time and the machine will shutdown when it goes above 80-85ºC, depending on the CPU and motherboard.
