I've fought the world boss a few times, and it never counted as a death for me. It always ended up saying something like "The healers dragged you to safety". This last one however did kill me and caused divine intervention. I now have 1 remaining.
I believe this was caused by my death being triggered by burn damage instead of being directly hit by the boss.
