For temperature, pH, and salinity, METPO has a curated qualitative ladder and a separate numeric-bin ladder, and they neither cross-reference nor agree on thresholds:
- temperature: temperature preference (psychrophilic/mesophilic/thermophilic) vs the temperature optimum/range bins.
- pH: pH growth preference (acidophilic/neutrophilic/alkaliphilic) vs the pH optimum/range bins (and there are two overlapping pH qualitative systems).
- salinity: halophily preference vs the NaCl optimum/range bins.
Nothing links the qualitative classes to the numeric bins, and cut points disagree (mesophilic overload in #444; halophily vs Kushner in #474). Suggested fix: pick one threshold convention per axis, align both ladders, and connect each qualitative class to the bin set it subsumes.
