In Macbook pro with T2 chip keyboard, wake-from-suspend, and webcam not working

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 por) Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1038NG7 (8) @ 3.80 GHz

What's wrong?

Device: MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2020 (Four Thunderbolt 3 ports, Model A2251)
OS: Omarchy 3.2.2

Issues:

1. Internal keyboard not working during setup

   • The built-in keyboard did not respond during initial setup.
   • Workaround: Used an external USB keyboard.

2. System does not wake from suspend properly

   • After suspending (or closing the lid), the system fails to wake up correctly.
   • The screen remains black, and occasionally the password screen appears, but the internal keyboard and touchpad do not respond.
   • The only recovery is a hard reboot.

3. Built-in webcam not detected

   • The internal webcam is not recognized by the system.
   • It does not appear in device listings or work in any application.

These problems are not mentioned as known issues in the manual.
I have attached the lsusb output below, which shows the internal keyboard/trackpad is detected on Bus 005, but no webcam is listed.

I would like to use Omarchy on this Mac, as the alternative (Tahoe) is very unstable. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using Omarchy on MacBook Pro 14,1 (13", 2017 no touch-bar) and I had similar issues with the webcam but found a working solution here. It works for me, apart from color correction, not sure if I did it well but you could give it a try.

I have the same issue as well, 2018 Macbook Pro (A1989) with Intel integrated graphics. When closing lid and opening again, screen remains black and occasionally lock screen comes back up, but touchbar loses functionality; only fix being a hard reboot.

I have a MacBook Air 2018 (also T2) running Omarchy and ran into similar issues. I put together a repo with extra tweaks beyond what Omarchy ships:

• Webcam: Installs the facetimehd reverse-engineered driver + firmware. Update: The T2 webcam is already handled by apple-bce (VHCI) + uvcvideo, both included in the linux-t2 kernel. The facetimehd packages are for pre-T2 Macs with Broadcom 1570 PCIe cameras — they will not help on T2 hardware. No extra packages needed.
• Suspend/wake: Unfortunately this is a known unfixable issue — the apple-bce driver cannot cleanly suspend/resume, and T2 Macs only support s2idle (no S3 deep sleep). Omarchy already disables the power key globally and sets a 5s shutdown timeout, so no T2-specific workaround is needed for those.
• Keyboard: If yours is not working, make sure you have the apple-bce driver loaded (Omarchy should handle this). The keyboard worked for me after Omarchy T2 detection.

Proper suspend is the problem being worked on in PR #5998 and discussion #4695. The root cause is the T2's apple_bce module can't handle PCI D3 entry — it needs to be cleanly unloaded before suspend and reloaded after resume.

This also fixes the webcam — it routes through the T2 chip and only appears after apple_bce is properly loaded.

Confirmed on MacBookPro15,4 and MacBookAir8,1 — the same approach should work on your MacBookPro16,2. Details and install instructions in PR #5998.
