I've seen issues discussing about widgets, but with no official response, so I guess it can be assumed that its implementation would be hard due to the way Smart Dock handles app placing. So, what if before actually supports app widgets, Smart Dock had more built-in widgets?
They would be simple yet useful. For example, one showing time and date, or another one that lists recent apps (useful if the user disables recent apps in the dock but yet wants them to appear in the desktop), or maybe even a widget whose only function is to display a picture chosen by the user.
If handling space becomes complicated, then make it so that only one widget can be enabled at the same time
I'm suggesting this because, personally, I find very pragmatic to have a big clock with the current date alongside it in the desktop, while I don't have any use for notes, currently leaving half side of the desktop empty
