Stable tag is still linked to AL2 based image

Describe the question/issue

The stable tag in ECR is still linked to a version that is based on Amazon Linux 2. As per this doc, https://aws.amazon.com/amazon-linux-2/faqs/, AL2 is out of support and no longer receiving security updates. Are there any plans in the near term to either deprecate the stable tag or move it to a v3 container image?

Hi @mhemani-reach, thanks for the inquiry. At this time, we are still undecided on whether or not to move the stable tag over to 3.X.

We do also provide a 3 image tag for folks to get the latest 3.X image tag. Our wording regarding AL2 being deprecated.

The 2.x AWS for Fluent Bit image is based on Amazon Linux 2 (AL2) and now only receives updates when the AL2 base image is updated. aws-for-fluent-bit v2 will reach its end of life on June 30, 2026, mirroring the upstream Amazon Linux 2 EOL date. After this date, 2.x image updates will stop if AL2 base image updates cease. We encourage customers to migrate to the 3.x image, which is based on Amazon Linux 2023 and includes long-term support through 2028.

We do not have any plans to update and maintain the stable tag at this time.
