news about the green cast of dng images #826

Description

@koslowj

As I've been traveling, I could not keep up with all intermediate versions, but the last couple of versions again start on my MacBook M4 Pro. Thanks!

Concerning the green cast in dng images I've mentioned a couple of times before: today I went back to some pictures from 2021 that had been treated with the then current version of PureRaw and had sidecar files from an earlier Linux version of Ansel. Then I applied the latest PureRaw6 to the Canon .CR3 images, in order to compare the performance.

Importing the folder on my Macbook into Ansel 3479 showed a surprising result: the old dng files looked fine, but the new ones had the dreaded green cast.

Anyway, I just removed one of the new dng files from the library and then copied the the corresponding old sidecar file, giving it the name of the new dng file. Re-importing the new dng image into Ansel then resulted in a correctly displayed image (not just thumbnail) without the green cast! While I could not copy the development stack of an old dng file to the new one (warning about some cycle, maybe I had not compressed the old development stack at the time), I was still able to create a test-style containing colorbalance.rgb, filmit.rgb, input color profile and white balance from an old dng file and apply it to the new one. And the green cast disappeared!

Perhaps this gives an indication as to where to look for the reason of the green cast. All new sidecar files seem to be 1172 bytes long, while the old ones, while the old ones vary between 24 and 40 kB. Unfortunately I cannot including sidecar files below. I could send them via email, if needed.
