Rename images

not really a new feature, but I think a necessary one.

A way to rename images and folders while retaining edits. At the moment I could rename before importing, but what if I change idea after importing, or I want to rename images imported long ago?

At the moment the only solution to rename in bulk, using variable (include date of the shot in filename, for example) is using an external program, but then I would lose all edits.

This shold be near the "move images"

Yes, but not only image variables, a couple of usage cases:

using the original filename + date of shot taken = DSC-2345_2022-07-25.arw
using the camera + a counter = Nikon-D800_001.nef

The file export dialog basically offers this when selecting the export path, it accepts a string like
$(FILE_FOLDER)/ansel_exported/$(FILE_NAME)_ansel$(YEAR)$(MONTH)$(DAY)t$(HOUR)$(MINUTE)$(SECOND)

It already supports all the variables I can think of.

Maybe a similar dialog, invoked via menu, as the export dialog, would be the best.

I'm not clear what do you mean...

I thought $() was a general way to indicate variables, $(EXIF.MODEL) $(FILE.NAME) are invoked via $() but the first is related to the file, the second is read from the exif metadata.
