Thumbnail titles?

In the Lighttable: is it possible to change the thumbnail titles from "DNG #230" or "CR #117" or "TIFF #23" to the actual filenames? Presently I go to the left panel and scroll down to the EXIV and IPTC data to find this info. The first seven or eight characters would probably suffice to identify the image in question as the full names could be too long.

I see two possibilities.

1. While in the lighttable, click alt to see a bunch of informations displayed transiently on each thumbnail;
2. As shown below, edit the views field in the preferences to adjust the display on the menu bar to the far right. For this you can add variables that Ansel will understand, such as $(FILE.NAME).

As in my case, you could try this: $(FILE.NAME) • $(EXIF.MODEL) • $(EXIF.LENS) • $(EXIF.FOCAL.LENGTH) mm • f/$(EXIF.APERTURE) • $(EXIF.EXPOSURE) • $(EXIF.ISO) ISO

Do not forget the "Dollar" sign, it does not always show here...

The drawback of the second possibility is that you have to select the image for the right value to be displayed.

I think it would be useful a preference to customize the thumbnail title, exactly the same as the pattern for the image information line.

Since the size of the thumbnail is determined, for some people the extent of information may be too limited for this reason or the size of the fonts may be too small to accommodate all this information.
I am wondering whether the views information could be set to hovering an image rather than to selecting it. Hovering refreshes the informations for the exifs in the left panel, which is much faster than having to select an image for the views and by the way may suffice if a minimal set of informations is defined in a user preference: mine is called Simple and it duplicates somehow the views shown in my previous message.
And also, I favor the #number following the kind of file to immediately see where we are in the collection. An image name would be less informative in this regard.
What I regret not have (maybe a feature to propose in another discussion) would be to know whether the image is tagged, and to be able to toggle/select the collection based on this property.

Filenames generally can't fit in the place where we put the thumbnails index number. Hit Alt key to get the heads-up display with all textual information.
