The default reconnect backoff grows longer than the polling interval, so the probe can miss a service that binds late in the 30 second startup deadline. The TCP poll that the probe replaced did not have this delay. In a local measurement, services that bound 26 to 28 seconds after the start often failed with the default backoff. The same measurement passed with a fixed 250 ms delay, and the wait after a bind dropped from up to 10 seconds to about 1 second. --- sdks/go/test/integration/expansions.go | 10 +++++++++- 1 file changed, 9 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git a/sdks/go/test/integration/expansions.go b/sdks/go/test/integration/expansions.go index 1204304367bc..8565c1b3b153 100644 --- a/sdks/go/test/integration/expansions.go +++ b/sdks/go/test/integration/expansions.go @@ -25,6 +25,7 @@ import ( "github.com/apache/beam/sdks/v2/go/test/integration/internal/jars" "github.com/apache/beam/sdks/v2/go/test/integration/internal/ports" "google.golang.org/grpc" + "google.golang.org/grpc/backoff" "google.golang.org/grpc/codes" "google.golang.org/grpc/credentials/insecure" "google.golang.org/grpc/status" @@ -132,7 +133,14 @@ func (es *ExpansionServices) GetAddr(label string) (string, error) { func waitForExpansionService(addr string, exited <-chan error) error { ctx, cancel := context.WithTimeout(context.Background(), 30*time.Second) defer cancel() - conn, err := grpc.NewClient("passthrough:///"+addr, grpc.WithTransportCredentials(insecure.NewCredentials())) + conn, err := grpc.NewClient("passthrough:///"+addr, + grpc.WithTransportCredentials(insecure.NewCredentials()), + // The default reconnect backoff grows longer than the polling interval. + // Use a fixed delay so that the probe sees a late bind before the deadline. + grpc.WithConnectParams(grpc.ConnectParams{ + Backoff: backoff.Config{BaseDelay: 250 * time.Millisecond, Multiplier: 1, MaxDelay: 250 * time.Millisecond}, + MinConnectTimeout: 5 * time.Second, + })) if err != nil { return err } From 558d8685054f5ec9ea40036dc3bc4ea1c6c5231c Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Bruno Volpato Date: Sun, 1 Nov 2026 01:33:08 -0400 Subject: [PATCH 3/3] [Go] Skip expansion tests when another process takes the port The test helper binds the port that GetAddr selects, but the port is not reserved between selection and bind.
