Quick Start

1. Install Extension

From VS Code Marketplace:

  1. Open VS Code
  2. Go to Extensions (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + X)
  3. Search for "DevBuddy"
  4. Click Install

Or install from command line:

code --install-extension angelogirardi.dev-buddy

2. Choose Your Platform

Open Settings and set your preferred platform:

3. Configure Authentication

For Linear Users
  1. Get your API key: linear.app/settings/api
  2. Open Command Palette: Cmd+Shift+P (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux)
  3. Run: DevBuddy: Update Linear API Key
  4. Paste your API token

For Jira Cloud Users
  1. Open Command Palette: Cmd+Shift+P (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux)
  2. Run: DevBuddy: Setup Jira Cloud
  3. Enter your Jira site URL (e.g., yourcompany.atlassian.net)
  4. Enter your email address
  5. Create an API token: id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens
  6. Paste the API token when prompted

Tip: You can paste any Jira ticket URL and DevBuddy will extract your site URL automatically.

4. Start Using DevBuddy

Three ways to interact with DevBuddy:

  1. Sidebar: Click the checklist icon in the Activity Bar
  2. Chat: Open VS Code Chat → type @devbuddy
  3. Commands: Press Cmd+Shift+P → search "DevBuddy"

TODO to Ticket Converter

Transform TODO comments into fully-tracked tickets with automatic code permalinks. Works with both Linear and Jira Cloud.

How it works:

  1. Write a TODO comment in your code
  2. Right-click → "Convert TODO to Ticket"
  3. Review auto-generated ticket with permalink
  4. Choose: Replace TODO, Add More TODOs, or Link Existing TODOs

Let AI generate your standup update automatically from commits and ticket activity. Works with both Linear and Jira Cloud.

Installation

From VS Code Marketplace

Install directly from the VS Code Marketplace:
