Slow transitions and "Open with" dialog after selecting a Category

I'm running this Kotlin sample on an Android 9 device, the Motorola One Zoom.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Just select a Category from the list on the first screen;
2. Then the app starts the transition slowly and hangs a little before showing the "Open with" dialog;
3. The dialog is skipped automatically. Note that the actions are disabled in the picture;
4. The app loads the selected category screen successfully.
