+# Status Legend v1
+
+This file defines the current **status legend v1** for the power-posing pilot.
+
+Its job is reader-facing rather than object-defining.
+It explains how the public wording used in `snapshot-v2.md` should be read, and how that wording is backed by the current verdict grammar layer.
+
+This file therefore sits between:
+
+- the public snapshot wording,
+- the case's verdict grammar,
+- and the governed claim / verdict objects.
+
+It does **not** create judgment by itself.
+It only explains the current public wording surface in a disciplined way.
+

+## Why this layer exists
+
+A reader-facing living page should not present status language as if it were decorative prose.
+
+Terms like:
+
+- `contested and significantly weakened`
+- `contested but still surviving`
+
+should be understandable as governed status phrases rather than as casual editorial mood.
+
+This layer makes that relationship explicit.
+

+- Public wording: `contested and significantly weakened`
+- Snapshot label: `Original claim`
+- Claim id: `C-0001`
+- Verdict id: `V-0001`
+- Governing verdict level: `original_claim_contested_and_weakened`
+- Governing claim epistemic status: `contested`
+- Reader meaning: the original strong-form claim remains visible in the lineage, but it should not be read as stably supported and it has been materially weakened by later dissent and re-interpretation.
+
+### `contested_but_still_surviving`
+- Public wording: `contested but still surviving`
+- Snapshot label: `Descendant claim`
+- Claim id: `C-0002`
+- Verdict id: `V-0002`
+- Governing verdict level: `descendant_claim_contested_but_surviving`
+- Governing claim epistemic status: `contested`
+- Reader meaning: the descendant claim is not stabilized or canonized, but the case still continues through this weaker path rather than ending in clean extinction.

+
+These phrases should be read as **public-facing renderings of the current verdict grammar**, not as freestanding narrative decoration.
+
+If the pilot later changes its status wording in `snapshot-v2.md`, that change should be reflected here and in `verdict-grammar-v1.md` rather than drifting silently.
